Ever wonder what authors discuss in private over IM? When they are restless and between projects? With nary an editor in sight to have a heart attack over our casually chatty abuse of the English language? Here's what the fabulous Kayleigh Jamison and I chatted about earlier today whilst I was waiting in vain for the caffeine to take effect:
Kitty: i'm going on about 3 hours of sleep and sense another do nothing day so i've decided i'm doing just that...not a damned thing.
kayleigh: lol. hey, it works.
Kitty: be prepared for typeouts and left out words only worse than usual
Kitty: typoes even? egads what is a typeout?
Kitty: like typo plus wipeout?
kayleigh: a typeout is a bigass typo?
Kitty: lol
Kitty: i think today I am one big ass typo
Kitty: i should probably stay away from the general net public
kayleigh: rofl.
(Yes, stepping away from the keyboard now before I get slammed by another typeout...I'm surprised I even made it past the blog log-in screen...)

New acceptance from Samhain!
I'm pleased to announce my paranormal Victorian m/m piece, Sleight of Hand, has been contracted with Samhain Publishing. Release date will be late 2008 or early 2009. While Samhain does not offer a yaoi line per se and so will not categorize the story as such, readers of that genre can be assured that Sleight of Hand bears a distinctive yaoi flavor, along with a heavy anime influence and steampunk-ish elements. (This would be the story inspired by a marathon viewing session of D.Gray-Man, if that gives you any idea!) I'll announce an official release date as soon as I have one, so stay tuned!

Blue Ruin 3 is done, and new reviews are in!
Coming up for air with a blog post before I go back under... I've been saying I was "almost done" writing Blue Ruin 3: Chains of Love for the past few weeks, but I'm pleased to report I finally sent the completed manuscript to my editor this past Thursday. Yes, just in time for me to celebrate the July the 4th weekend with my "OMG I finished another novel" ritual -- taking care of the housework I sorely neglected while my brain played hostage to the Muse! (What, you thought I popped open a bottle of Cristal or something???)
Still waiting on a response regarding "Option A" for The Eldritch Legacy, while the patient folks who offered me "Option B" wait to hear what I hear. Also still waiting to hear back from "Publisher A" on Sleight of Hand, the paranormal Victorian yaoi piece. Yes, the life of a writer -- when we aren't writing, we're waiting! Rather than bite my nails any more than I already have, however, I have two new short story ideas and edits on BR3 to keep me busy. Not to mention, BR 4 is already looming on the horizon. Of course, there's always more of the aforementioned housework...but who wants to do that crap when I could be playing with my bishies instead? :P
I have some new reviews in on a few different titles, most of them for Blue Ruin, though I was delightfully surprised to receive 4 stars on one of my two het pieces still floating around out there. Here's the latest batch:
Some Kind of Stranger has received a very positive, very in-depth 4.5 star review from reader Jen B. who goes into detail regarding varying elements of the story, including yaoi, BDSM, and characterization. Check it out at: http://jenthegingerkid.blogspot.com/2008/06/blue-ruin-some-kind-of-stranger-by.html
Close to Me has two new reviews, starting with 5 stars from Fallen Angels. Reviewer Teresa says, "Blue is a very complex character who is a mixture of innocence with a quirky sense of humor that keeps his lord and master on his toes. I loved how Derek is in charge, but in reality Blue gets what he wants, even if it is also what Derek wants too. Add to this mixture the crazy friends that Blue picks up along the way, and all the antics they get into, to Derek’s bemusement[...] This is one book that I couldn’t put down until the very end." Teresa's full comments may be read at: http://www.fallenangelreviews.com/2008/May/Teresa-BlueRuin2_CloseToMe.htm
Close to Me also gets 4 stars from Literary Nymphs who says, "Katrina Strauss takes us on a journey through a real life drama. The plot, setting, and characters are all written with a real feel to them. I felt sorry for all three of the men, and it was easy to see each person’s dilemma. If you enjoyed the first book in this series, the second is sure to be an enjoyable read." The complete review is available at: http://literarynymphsreviewsonly.blogspot.com/2008/06/blue-ruin-2-close-to-me.html
And then yes, regarding that stray het piece, Fallen Angels also reviewed Sanctified, which came out a year ago! While the sexy tattooed manback cover has generated quite the response, and the story itself has received praise from peers like Angela Guillame and Ciar Cullen, I've been a bit dismayed to see it overlooked by the "official" review sites. I believe the story has fallen through the cracks for a few reasons. Between it being a stand-alone short (a format which some reviewers eat up while others prefer a meatier read), the fact that it was one of the first releases from a new house when many have recently grown wary of smaller upstart presses, my inclusion of war and religion right there along with interracial/multicultural sex and romance, and my switch to the m/m yaoi side around the time of Sanctified's release, I don't think everyone knew what to make of this one. Heck, I didn't quite know what to make of it, other than that the tale demanded to be written! So after a year, here is my first "official" review for Sanctified, and it's a nice one: http://www.fallenangelreviews.com/2008/May/NeNe-Sanctified.htm
That wraps up my latest "progress report." I'll be back in a bit with some eyecandy of the influences behind the newest member of the Blue Ruin family. Partly as a teaser for Chains of Love, but mainly because I'll use any excuse to post picspam of beautiful men, and well none of you seem to complain when I do. ;)
